Brief notes of zoom meeting on Thursday 6 August at 6 pm
Attendees :- Ian May Beant Richard Satish Mike
Satish raised the issue of education what are practical things we can do ?
Due to pandemic there is not a lot can be achieved now . We await openings and then deal with education department at council .?Beant also stressed that we must create awareness through the schools . Mike mentioned that it is our no 1 objective right from day 1 since we formed this group . We will Persue .
Ian mentioned issues about tree planting and none planned in Cranford . Beant then confirmed that one tree was planted in Woodfield Road . Also the tree bottoms had been cleaned up and weeds removed . Richard said that residents should provide the council a “wish list”
Of where the trees should be planted .
Ian mentioned that Firs Drive and A312 – there is always a lot of rubbish in the undergrowth
This is regularly reported to Fix my street but still not cleared . Mike will write to Wayne Stephenson . Mike reminded that we should still email Ian all pics of litter /fly tipping with location and dates so that our website is uploaded regularly . The website is also regularly sent to senior council staff and local MPs
Beant regularly does litter picking and has a good relations with other residents and encourages litter picking /clearing weeds . The broken slabs on the pavements should be reported to Hounslow Highways. If reporting to local councillors eg ( Cllr Malik) is not effective then we should write to adjoining area councillors . They are Cllr Lilly Bath and Cllr Rajwant . She also has been very active joining the litter pick group on Sunday’s and recently did a litter pick in Waye park . It was a useful day with volunteers from all areas off Hounslow. Mike said that the Parks should really be cleaned by the authorities responsible . It is ok for volunteers to do Pick ups but it’s not desirable. We await the response as Umme was going to contact the staff ( names ) provided by Richard of Greenpark360.
Also Richard mentioned that as part of awareness the council has launched a campaign and notices to be posted in parks re Love your park .https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/news/article/1106/hounslow_council_launches_new_campaign_in_face_of_littering_epidemic_throughout_uk_parks
Litter fires ? Chaucer Avenue
I’m not sure what was said about this issue – someone please highlight . 6 . Mike reminded the team that the big spring UK clean month had been postponed from spring To 11 Sept – 27 Sept .We will do the litter picking on Saturday 26 Sept starting at 10 am . We will cover the usual route from Hounslow House to Marriotts Hotel , Cranford all along the main Bath Road . Beant suggested that we should do the pockets outside this main road as there is a lot of litter . Our main aim to make public aware hence the main busy road . Nevertheless it was decided that the other pocket roads could be litter picked on the other dates of the clean up month – local team members May organise localised litter picks in their areas on 12 and 19 September . Mike will invite local MPs to our pick up day on 26 September .
Planning to commence – WATCH THIS SPACE .
The meeting ended with sincere thanks to Beant especially as she has been extremely active with litter picking , awareness campaigning and general diligence. Overall thanks to Ian and Richard for their input .
